Food and the Family Table: Retaking Time

Bay Area Artists Ene Ostereaas Constable and Ann Schnake explore the history of food in Richmond through their work and call to families to return to cooking, talking and eating together. The journey begins with Richmond's food environment history from early Native American times to the fast food nation. "Food and the Family Table" travels further and deeper, visiting both the current tables and kitchens of Richmond

This image is of the Nunez ranch in San Pablo, printed on a large transparency. It is one in a series of images that wrap around the WIC office tracing history of the food environment and encouraging families to take the time for family meals and cherishing of age old cooking traditions. The Nunez/ De Borba/ Andrade family began farming in Richmond in 1852 after their arrival from Portugal and still lives in Richmond.
